Description

Nurses from different settings are always striving to provide effective quality care to the geriatric population. One challenge that is commonly seen, no matter what setting, is how to manage pain for all older adults - especially for clients who are cognitively impaired. Consequences of poor pain management in the elderly could include poor nutrition, sleep deprivation, depression, anxiety, agitation, decreased activity and a lower overall quality of life.

This workshop is designed to specifically address the challenge of providing effective pain management to the elderly by using a latest, best practices approach. It starts with an overview of pain, progresses through different, validated Pain Assessment tools then explores various pain management methods using a best practice approach. It will enhance the nurse's knowledge-base using different learning modalities: an interactive and experiential approach, providing specific assessment tools and handy pocket guides.
